Mon

10 Mar

The theme for this week is Almsgiving taken from Matthew  6:1-4. Listen to an Introduction which explains how we are using Bible readings through this journey. Listen to the Bible reading and questions to help you to engage with it. You’ll hear the voices of Lynne Usher and Mark Harris.

Prayer before Scripture:

Be present Spirit of God as we listen to these words of Scripture. Open our ears that we may hear the call to embody Christ to the world. Open our minds to be challenged to new ways of thinking and being. Open our hearts that we may be formed for mission in your world. We ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

At the end of the reading: Whakarongo ki te kupu a te Wairua ki te Haahi.  Whakapaingia te Atua.

Tue

11 Mar

Call to mind an experience when someone was generous to you.

Have you thanked them for their kindness?  How could you ‘pay it forward’?

What act of generosity could you offer to someone else?

Click here to scan the World Section in today’s NZ Herald.

Pray for those countries, people and their leaders in need.

Is there a charity or NGO that’s making a difference that you could support?

We can’t read the news without feeling we need to do something, so why don’t we?

Thu

13 Mar

Scroll through the contact list on your phone and ask God to bring to your attention a person for whom you could show hospitality.

Make a plan for them to come over for a meal, bake for them or offer to babysit.

Fri

14 Mar

Go to your pantry. Take out some canned food to take to church on Sunday for the Auckland City Mission foodbank, or pātaka kai (community food pantry).

Put it into the car so that it is ready to take.

Sat

Think of a friend, family member or acquaintance who is not well. If they are close by pop in some flowers from your garden, baking, bar of chocolate or a pack of nice tea. If they are further away you could post your gift or just send them a message of support and encouragement.

Concluding Prayer:

God, you call us to serve you with all the strength we have:
you are faithful to those you call;
may Jesus’ resurrection raise us if we stumble,
the Christlight beckon us if we lose our way,
and we shall have strength once more
to walk with you to the cross. Amen.

Each Sunday the photo features a church from the Diocese. This is the Marsden Chapel at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
